SMS Forwarder released
Written by Edvard

sms_forward_sc01 I've just released my new Android app on the market and its available right now. SMS Forwarder is a simple but smart application that will let you forward incoming text messages to another number and/or an email address. Maybe you want to read your text messages on your computer through email, maybe you have two phones and what to keep up to date on new SMS or maybe you want to make sure no one is harassing your kids.

More features are being planned but in order to see if my server can handle the traffic Im going easy to begin with!

Please give the app a go, rate it and leave a feedback. I spent quite some time on the graphical layout and I am sure you can see where I got the inspiration from. :)

Enjoy!

Update: Uploaded a new version. Forwarded SMS now also includes date and time received.

Windows Phone 7: Bound for greatness or just a stylish flop?
Written by Edvard

windows-phone-71 Microsoft seems to really be putting money into their new, awkwardly named mobile operating system. Experts are conflicted whether or not WP7 will achieve anything in a market dominated by Android, iOS and others.

So what do you think? Will Windows Phone 7 bring Microsoft back into the game or will their attempt fail miserably?

Lets have a civil debate here (though we both know it will go completely off topic eventually >_<)

Did your Linux freeze? No problem! REISUB to the rescue

frozen-computer Linux is pretty awesome, but if you find your penguin fronted operating system completely frozen, stay calm and complete the following procedure.

So, if your system is completely stuck in such a way that ctrl+alt+del does nothing and maybe even the mouse pointer isnt going anywhere either, then just do the following and watch how Linux is never really stuck.

Hold down the Right Alt and SysRq (PrintScreen) keys and press this sequence:

R E I S U B

This will cleanly unmount drives, terminate processes and cleanly reboot your machine.

To remember the sequence, remember that R E I S U B backwards spells BUSIER, as in “my computer is busier than what it should be” Wondering what the letters mean? Read on for a quick run down

Spy on your users through SSH
Written by Edvard

keyboard_spy-751372 If you have an SSH server running on your computer (which is running Linux of course), you can log in and spy on anyone currently using your computer. Hey, its your computer after all!

First, connect to your computer through ssh

ssh username@ip/domain (example: ssh This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )

After typing in your password you should be logged in.

Now just simply type in the following command:

cat /dev/vcs1

This will show you what happens on the console 1. If someone is typing, you’ll be able to get an output the keystrokes. Substitute cat /dev/vcs1 with cat /dev/vcs2 or cat /dev/vcs3 and so on for other consoles.

Nifty!

Check out Gnome 3 in Ubuntu right now
Written by Edvard

shell-black2 Gnome 3.0 is currently set for a March 2011 release but you can already give it a spin. All you need is an Ubuntu install you’re not afraid to mess up.

Just open up a terminal and type in the following command:

sudo apt-get install gnome-shell

After the installation is complete type

sudo gnome-shell --replace

NOTE: If you have an Intel graphics card you will need to type in: export GNOME_SHELL_DISABLE_TFP=1

If you find yourself wanting to go back to the regular Gnome 2.3 just reboot or open up a terminal window and type:

sudo gnome-shell --replace

So what do you think? Gnome 3 promises to change the way we think about or desktop. Think they are getting it right? (Click the picture for a full sized version)

Note 2: This does not working in VMware apparently

The Wilderness Downtown
Written by Zac Reid

Wilderness Downtown The other day, a friend came into my office touting a “must see” HTML5 Chrome Experiment.  I had enjoyed the experiments page in the past, but had not poked around the site in months.  I was surprised to have totally missed the involvement of one of my favorite music groups: Arcade Fire.

This chrome experiment is an interactive music video for “We Used to Wait”, one of my favorite tracks from the recently released “The Suburbs” .  The video was created by lauded photographer/director Chris Milk and it is simply amazing.

Check it out here.  If you’d like to share your version, post it in the forum!

NOTE: Best experienced with the Google Chrome Browser – so grab it here if you don’t have it.

tuawappleeventroundup Like any other passionate Mac users out there I watched last night’s Apple Fall Event on Apple.com’s Mac Only stream. I thought I would share some thoughts on two things that was brought up. Keep in mind that I am no Apple fan even though I love my Macbook Pro.

Read on if the title of this article intrigues you even the slightest
