opera-logo The web browser Opera was recently updated to version 10.60. This is a highly anticipated version especially for Linux users as its the first version for Linux since 10.10. Opera software promises a faster and more secure browser experience with the new version compared to earlier ones. Read on for more details.

The new rendering engine, Presto 2.6, is implemented in the new version and it supposedly features increased stability and several new features. Geo location is something Opera has worked on and version 10.60 supports it. We are also promised 50% increase in JavaScript performance compared to 10.50. Additionally, this is the first (official) version that features support for WebM, Google’s new video format. 10.60 also supports offline web apps.

Moving on to more Linux specific improvements, the Qt independence is probably high up on the list. The graphical look of Opera is now controlled by the browser rather than the desktop environment.
