FM Radio for Nexus One?
Written by arrrghhh
Tuesday, 13 July 2010 21:49

It seems the HTC Desire has the exact same broadcom chip as the N1, and the Desire has a built-in FM radio...

So why doesn't the N1?  Seems like it may soon...  Read on at the XDA thread or the release at Android Police

Yes, I did see this on Engadget as well.  Gotta give credit where it is due!

HTC 1 is the concept phone of your dreams
Written by Edvard
Tuesday, 13 July 2010 03:38

htc_1 HTC 1 is a design concept by Designer Andrew Kim which makes even the iPhone look dated. The focus in the design is simplicity, durability and functionality. The device is built from a brass housing coated in silver and is clearly designed to last forever.

Andrew Kim argues that HTC doesn't really have phones that differentiates itself from lower end models in terms of design. The HTC 1 is supposed to do exactly this. Everything from the concept interface to details in the constructions is streamlined and mature. The display even has a built in UV Light which kills germs and bacteria's on the surface of the phone.

While we probably wont be seeing this phone any time soon, its an interesting read and it definitely gave me goose bumps.

Now Andrew, please make a qwerty version as well!

Calling all aspiring Android developers: Android App Inventor!
Written by Edvard
Monday, 12 July 2010 08:53

10x071oub345aafgg Google has started offering their simple to use app development software. Its essentially an app maker which makes creating Android applications as easy as 1-2-3 without any prior programming knowledge needed. So if you’re sitting on a great idea but lack the programming experience to realize it, then the Android App Inventor might be just what you have been looking for.

It relies on visual blocks rather than code and the Android App inventor has functions for just about anything an Android phone can do. GPS, Twitter, camera, texting and anything else your mind desires can most likely be easily dragged into place using Google’s new developer tool.

It seems you need to send a request to Google in order to get access as its still in Beta, but I reckon Google will grant access to all serious aspiring developers!

Check out the Android App Inventor here

Written by Edvard
Monday, 12 July 2010 00:05

mandriva0 This is a few days old, but I figured it was worth mentioning anyways! The final version of Mandriva Linux 2010 Spring is now available. Its faster, meaner more secure and generally more badass than previous versions. It still wont make you a nice cup of tea, but my guess is they’re working on it. </joke>

At any rate, installation should be a breeze now and there are plenty of fresh, nice drivers included as well. Some of the highlights being:

  • Smart Desktop – A technology that gives easy access to files and emails using Ginko.
  • Mandriva Directory Server (MDS), a user friendly LDAP system
  • Security tools, including parental control
  • Lots of scientific tools such as Axiom, Jmol and Salom.
  • KDE 4.4.3, Gnome 2.30.1, Firefox 3.6.6 and Xorg Server 1.7.7

Mandriva Linux 2010 Spring is available in three editions

  • Powerpack – includes commercial software and customer support at the price of €49
  • One – This is a live CD edition which is the most popular solution for most users.
  • Free – A free edition (free as in no proprietary software)

So, there you have it. Why not give it a go and as always, feel free to share your experiences!

Written by Edvard
Sunday, 11 July 2010 23:47

HTC_HD2_03-420-100 The Android porting project supported here hasnt included the HTC HD2. This is because the HD2 has significantly different hardware which means a whole separate project is required. Luckily, some skilled developers have taken on the challenge and the result looks to be quite promising.

WiFi, GSM Radio and data, Sound, 3D, G-Sensor, Light Sensor, Compass, Multi touch is all working and its reported to be quite stable. You even get HTC Sense included. The most significant feature missing is currently bluetooth but its being worked on supposedly.

To try it out, go to the download page and grab the latest version. Please do let us know how it works out for you.
