Color boosted kernel for the Nexus 4

Say farewell to washed out colors

Color boosted kernel for the Nexus 4

I love my Nexus 4. However, I find the default display colors a bit washed out. I started tinkering with the color config in the kernel, and read up on the color discussions on XDA. I landed on a result I find satisfying and I must say I think the difference is quite significant. You can grab the boot image and either flash it it:

fastboot flash boot boot.img

.. or take it for a test run:

fastboot boot boot.img.

I committed the code to CM, so if you want to take a look, check out the gerrit entry.

I got myself a nexus 4 goodness! i must say, this is one sexy device.. that said, i haven’t noticed anything weird about the colors.. maybe that’s because i was using a samsung galaxy s+ before that.. so it’s already a big improvement xD.

that said, i wanted to ask you something.. I want to get started with a bit android hacking.. learn about the OS and hopefully contribute to one of the XDA, CM projects.. Can you point me to the direction of information where to get started?
    thanks in advance!

Congratulations with your N4. However, try the kernel and see the big difference in colors, its quite the improvement!

In regards to Android hacking it really depends on what you want to do. Application level stuff or kernel level stuff.

i already have made some apps, and I am familiar with the API.. but i would like to get involved with lower level stuff :>

.. how do I flash this, would love to give it a try, can I flash this via recovery and is it reversible? thanks in advance! Ian.

Use fastboot as described in the post. ;)

.. sorry,a noobie at this, just boot into recovery and flash from downloads? thanks for your patience!

          • Untouchab1e

No worries. Just boot the phone into bootloader mode and use fastboot from your connected computer! You must have used fastboot when you unlocked your bootloader, if you’ve done so that is. ;)

no sorry, used a wugfresh one click, so didn’t use adb, any other way that I could use? really would like to get the colours more vibrant.

          • Untouchab1e

You need to get the Android SDK and use the fastboot tool to flash the boot image ;)

sounds a bit above my level, so will have to leave it for now, thanks for the info, and keep up the good work!
